A Utah man tragically died after a motorcyclist hit him outside his home. On Monday night James Mair was rushed to the hospital after a 19-year-old struck the father-of-five in his neighborhood. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries hours later on Tuesday morning. “It is believed that Mr. Mair stepped into the roadway in an attempt to slow down the motorcyclist. Witnesses believe the motorcyclist was speeding,” revealed Draper Police Department officials. “He had children and obviously it’s normal for a dad to be concerned if they feel like somebody’s driving too fast,” shared Lt. Pat Evan during an interview with FOX station KSTU.
“When it happens in the neighborhood and let alone your own neighborhood, that makes it extra odd and extra traumatic,” he noted of Mair’s death. Understandably, the 43-year-old’s family is left devastated beyond words following the outcome of Monday’s incident. Thus to support his wife and five young kids, a GoFundMe page was created.
“My name is Clay Ah Quin. I’m fundraising for my Sister-in-law and her children. Last night my Brother in law Jd Mair was tragically taken from us when he was struck by a motorcyclist when trying to tell him to slow down out front his home. Jd leaves behind his beautiful wife and his 5 Amazing children,” read the page.
“The sudden news of Jd has been devastating, especially for his dear wife. In this moment there’s nothing we can do to bring him back but prayers for his dear family will be felt tremendously. We know that the Lord is in control during these times and he has a plan for us all. We believe Our dear brother Jd is home with his Heavenly Father, his Older Brother Jesus Christ, and all his many family members who have gone before him,” continued Quin.
“He was greeted by his family (Grandma June was at the front) upon his arrival. We believe through Christ’s Atonement and Resurrection we will have the opportunity to see him again. Families are Forever!! Thank you in advance for all the Love and Support you have all shown.”
Many who knew Mair closely left comments remembering the beautiful soul. “We are so heartbroken about what happened to JD. I saw him just last Saturday at our son’s baseball games,” wrote Dustin Kendall. “He always encouraged and cheered every single player on our team on, gave rides to as many as he could to practices and games, and helped in any way that he could… JD’s energy, enthusiasm, and love towards everyone was so contagious… We will miss JD.”
According to NBC station KSL-TV, the teen motorcyclist involved in the fatal accident was also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation is ongoing as there isn’t enough evidence that suggested a DUI.
