Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s husband has filed for a divorce after being married to Marjorie Greene for over 27 years.
As of now, there are no details on why the couple is getting divorced but according to court documents the marriage is “irretrievably broken”.
The couple was first married in 1995 and share three children together.
The left almost immediately celebrated the fact that Greene is getting a divorce and completely ignored the fact this is an emotional time for the family.
Fox News had more details on the shocking news:
The husband of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., filed for divorce Wednesday morning in a Georgia court.
In court documents obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, Perry Greene reportedly stated his 27-year-long marriage with Rep. Greene is “irretrievably broken.” The couple married in August 1995 and share three adult children together.
The filing in the Floyd County Superior Court showed the couple had previously been separated and continue to be separated. It also stated that “additional grounds” may be added as needed.
A petition was also filed to seal the proceeding, citing “confidential and sensitive information,” FOX 5 reported. The petition argues the “the parties’ significant privacy interest in sealing the records outweighs the public’s minuscule interest in access to said records.”
A hearing date on that motion has not yet been set.
The Hill had more on the story:
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) husband filed for divorce Wednesday on the grounds that the marriage is “irretrievably broken,” according to court documents.
Perry Greene is also asking the Floyd County Superior Court to seal the divorce proceedings, “because the parties’ significant privacy interest in sealing the records outweighs the public’s miniscule interest in access to said records.”
The filing contends that “sensitive personal and financial information” will likely be revealed throughout the case, “which would negatively impact the parties’ privacy interests.”
Perry Greene’s divorce petition requests an equitable division of the pair’s assets and debt. The filing notes that he and his wife have already separated.
“Marriage is a wonderful thing and I’m a firm believer in it. Our society is formed by a husband and wife creating a family to nurture and protect,” Marjorie Taylor Greene said in a statement shared with The Hill.
