Stories like this break my heart. Having a baby is supposed to be a beautiful moment – but it often can be a burden that is too much for people to bear. A man was on his way to work in Chelyabinsk, Russia. He was walking and decided to take a shortcut through the woods – and then he heard a strange noise.
Curious about the source of the noise, he went to find out what was where it was coming from. He found a three-day-old baby laying on a pile of leaves.
The infant was covered in ants and still had her umbilical cord attached. The baby girl’s skin was red and swollen from all the ant bites.
The man picked up the tiny baby and called for help. It was obvious that the child had been abandoned and if he didn’t help her, she would have died. The baby is now in stable condition, and the doctors all expect her to make a full recovery.
In Russia, baby abandonment is very common. There are more than 650,000 orphans that are called “registered orphans” in Russia.
They are known as “social orphans” because one or both of their biological parents are still living.
Some pro-life supporters have promoted placing “baby boxes” or baby “hatches” where women can leave their unwanted children without fear of punishment. I think condoms and birth control are a far better idea. Protected sex is the safest way to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.
