A mom couldn’t help but laugh when her husband sent her a video showing how bedtime was going with their youngest son.
Daisy Hipsher of Knoxville, Tennessee, reacted to what her son Thomas was insisting his dad let him sleep in—and it wasn’t his bed.
Bedtime can be a nightly battle for millions of parents trying to ensure their kids get a good night’s sleep. In a survey of 1,000 moms and dads with school-aged kids, conducted by OnePoll on behalf of toothbrush manufacturer Firefly, 77 percent of respondents said they were exhausted by the daily challenge of getting their children to go to bed.

The time spent getting kids to sleep can really add up too. The same study found that it eats up close to three hours a week or 140 hours a year.
As a mom of five, Hipsher knows the anguish a difficult bedtime can cause for all involved. However, that didn’t stop her from finding the humor in the dilemma facing her husband, who was trying to get Thomas to go to sleep.
She shared on social media the footage he sent her of the stalemate. In the TikTok video, a visibly frustrated Thomas can be heard telling his dad: “I’m not going to sleep in there” while pointing in the direction of his bed.

“Where are you going to sleep?” his dad can be heard asking. “In there,” Thomas replies, pointing in the direction of a cardboard box with a blanket in it.
While the box certainly fits the description of cozy, it doesn’t look like the kind of place where Thomas could enjoy a comfortable, unbroken night of sleep. To his credit, his dad doesn’t seem to be budging on the issue, much to his son’s audible annoyance.

Newsweek reached out to Hipsher via TikTok for further comment.
Writing alongside the clip, Hipsher jokes: “His mean daddy told him he had to sleep in his big, comfy, full sized bed instead of that small box.”
She wasn’t alone in finding her husband’s predicament hilarious. Many viewers on TikTok took to the comments section to share similar stories from growing up.
“My little brother had a phase of sleeping in a box for months,” one user wrote. “Then when he was getting a haircut he told the barber that he sleeps in a box and my mom had to explain we were not homeless.”
Another said: “I had a phase of sleeping in a closed wicker laundry basket when I was little. It was awesome.” A third wrote: “For some reason my daughter will randomly sleep in a clothes basket. Pick the battles.”
Another user commented: “I went through a phase where I slept in my wooden toy box for MONTHS my mom didn’t care as long as I slept.”
