Mom Shares Biggest Regrets in 9 Months Since Having Twins

When it comes to parenting, no one has all the answers, especially when you get two babies at once.

Megan Bayen, a first-time mom to twin boys, shared her honest reflections on Instagram, listing the three things she would do differently if she could go back.

To mark her sons turning 9 months, Bayen posted a gallery that included her three regrets or things she would change: Those were not letting herself get “nap trapped” so often, not having as much one-to-one time with each twin and stressing over her milk supply.

When you’re nap trapped, it means your baby or babies fall asleep on you and you feel like you can’t move in case you wake them up.

“Upon reflecting over the last nine months, I realized I didn’t really have regrets per se, but things that, if I could do it slightly differently, I would, and I thought it would be helpful to other moms (especially twin moms) to hear,” Bayen said.

The 37-year-old from Long Island, New York, explained in her caption that while the last nine months have been “the most special” of her life, being a mom to twins comes with a unique challenge.

“The hard part about twins is you sometimes have to pick one up even while the other is crying and so much of the time you’re with both of them. I wish my husband and I made more moments to have one-to-one time alone with each of them, but that’s something we’re prioritizing moving forward,” she told Newsweek.

Bayen’s gallery, posted in October this year, has received over 5,800 likes and over 100 comments from other Instagram users.

Fellow twin moms shared what they had learned along the way, with one commenting how important individuality is. “Sometimes my husband and I will take one and go play separate from the other,” they wrote.

“My twin boys are 8 months (today!) and I could not agree more on all of these points,” another commented.

A third Instagram user shared some words of wisdom about having “regrets” and said how Bayen did the best she could while feeling tired and being a new mom. “We forget the reasons why we didn’t do it when we look back to the past. But you were in the thick of it. Plenty of time to do other things now,” they wrote.

Bayen said these reflections are shaping how she and her husband will parent going forward. “Just being more intentional to have one-to-one time with each of them in the future. We are thinking monthly one-to-one dates with each son,” she told Newsweek.
