A dad-to-be from San Diego County has had the internet in tears this week after making concerted efforts to earn some extra cash for his growing family.
The short clip on TikTok shows Jacob Davis, a personal trainer, creating his first piece of content for his followers on Instagram account (@jacobthecoach) to make more money for the household.
His wife, Alexis Hill, caught the special moment on camera and told Newsweek how Jacob’s determination made her emotional.
“I’m eight months pregnant now, so we’re getting really close to welcoming our baby, and the thought of him doing this to help provide for us means so much,” Hill said.
The 29-year-old also explained a deeper meaning behind her husband’s initiative. In the past, Jacob has experienced feeling unsupported by the online community and those closest to him.
“That lack of encouragement affected his confidence and made it hard for him to be vulnerable in this way. Watching him overcome those doubts and step into this with such purpose and love was inspiring,” she told Newsweek.
The couple aren’t the only ones striving to find additional income sources to improve financial security. The economic challenges facing new families in America include the cost of living, food insecurity and childcare affordability.
Many families spend a significant portion of their income, which can cost between $9,000 to $22,000 annually, according to data from Child Care Aware of America, depending on the state. It showed the national average price of childcare for 2023 was $11,582.
Hill’s TikTok clip has clocked up 9.6 million views across the platform as well as thousands of comments from other social media users. One called Hill a “marketing genius,” while others commented that they were in “tears” after watching the clip.
“Let’s boost this man’s content asap!” another urged. “A man that isn’t afraid to show his own vulnerability and creativity is a real man,” wrote another. Many wished the couple, who are expecting a baby girl, all the best.
Hill told Newsweek that the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive and emotional for the parents to be.
“We’re so grateful for everyone who’s shared kind words or cheered Jacob on—they’ve turned a heartfelt moment into something truly unforgettable,” she said.
